Dr. Anastasia F. Georgountzou is a graduate of the Department of English Language and Literature of the School of Philosophy of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. She completed her postgraduate studies in the Department of Phonetics and Linguistics of University College London and obtained an M. A. in Phonetics (1987-1989 full-time) and a Ph.D. in Phonetics (The intonation of Modern Greek and English with special reference to pedagogical applications) (1989-1993). Her research interests focus on the acquisition and enhancement of oracy skills, teaching English pronunciation and intonation, academic writing as well as on distance and life-long learning. She is a full-time instructor of the Department of English Language and Literature of the NKUA where she is teaching English Phonetics and Phonology, Intonation of English and other linguistics courses. She has coordinated the Proficiency classes and the Academic Writing and Speech Laboratory at the Language Centre of the NKUA. She has also taught on the M.Ed. in TESOL program of the Hellenic Open University and she is a co-author of the 1st Volume of the educational material of the M.Ed.in TESOL of the Hellenic Open University. She has contributed to two research projects of the Department of Language and Literature of the NKUA one of which led to the production of a self-learning material on teaching Modern Greek to adults. She has given lectures on linguistics in Greece, at University College London and at the University of New York and has participated in linguistics conferences in Greece and abroad.
