From 2002-2003 to 2008-2009, the Faculty of English Language and Literature of the University of Athens, in collaboration with the Faculty of German Language and Literature of the University of Athens, organized and run an Interdepartmental M.A. programme in "Lexicography: Theory and Applications". The programme was co-financed by European and national resources.

The programme focused on the scientific study of lexicography, its methodology and applications, with particular emphasis on bilingual dictionaries. Its main aim was to train people who would like to work in a variety of relevant fields, such as compilation of dictionaries and encyclopedic guides, staff Universities and Terminology and Documentation Services and any other agencies that require terminology coinage and/or standardization.
