RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

This advanced writing course is designed to prepare students for the demands of academic writing (research papers and dissertations) at postgraduate level. The students will be guided through the whole research process, with emphasis on selecting and gathering scholarly sources from academic databases, international bibliographies, and/or electronic journals. We will also work through the various stages of the writing process (research, generating ideas, outlining, drafting a thesis, argumentation, constructing coherent paragraphs, etc.) and the mechanics of writing (scholarly style, clear sentences, integrating sources, documenting sources in notes and reference lists, avoiding plagiarism, revising etc.). The course aims at promoting academic integrity and will particularly emphasize the logic and mechanics of source integration.

Throughout the course the students will be asked to conduct library and internet research, compile bibliographies, write book reviews of critical sources, and write research papers.

Instructors: Anna Despotopoulou, Efterpi Mitsi, Theodora Tsimpouki
