CRITICAL THEORY
The main task of this course is to facilitate students to delve into some of the most prevalent critical discourses, theories and methodologies that have been prominent since the 60s. As a result of taking this course, each student should be able to: critically analyze the theoretical premises and concepts of the relevant methodologies and critical discourses; evaluate and engage the complex and interconnected ways in which various discourses relate to cultural, social, historical, literary and political issues; and develop her/his critical and theoretical position. For purposes of orientation, the course will focus on the following critical discourses and methodologies: Cultural Studies, Deconstruction, Feminism/Gender Studies, Postcolonial Studies and Marxism.
Student evaluation is based on participation in class discussions during the course, oral presentations, short written assignments, and finally a longer research paper.
