LANGUAGE TESTING AND ASSESSMENT
Addressing issues commonly discussed in foreign language testing and assessment, evaluation and measurement, the objectives of this course are:
- to acquaint students with different approaches to testing and assessment with view to their practical value in different testing situations
- to develop their ability to think critically about commonsensical assumptions regarding testing and assessment
- to help them raise valid research questions concerning global, local and glocal language testing and assessment systems
- to help them plan and carry out individual or collaborative action research
- to train them to use the relevant discourse effectively when discussing or writing on issues regarding language testing and assessment, evaluation and measurement.
Classes are built around specific questions which students must be prepared to discuss having covered assigned reading and carried out bibliographical research. In addition to two-hour contact sessions a week, students are usually required to do field work, attend special seminars and/or take part in extra tutorials.
Evaluation is based on participation in class discussions (30), assignments turned in during the semester (40), and a final paper, which deals with research carried out during the second part of the term (30),
