Scottish Universities' International Summer School 2014
Greek Scholarship for Courses in British and Irish Literature
Thanks to the generous donation of one of our sponsors we are happy to announce that we will offer a residential scholarship for two weeks to a student from Greece during the Scottish Universities’ International Summer School (SUISS) 2014, since the country is currently facing particularly difficult financial hardship. The scholarship is intended to support a gifted literature student who would not otherwise be able to attend the School for financial reasons, and will be awarded on the bases of academic merit as well as financial need.
SUISS was founded by Professor Daiches in 1947 with the aim of promoting international goodwill and cultural understanding, bringing together students from different religious and social backgrounds around the world to study, socialise and befriend each other – and it has always been the aim of our school to promote the full international scope of our founder’s vision.
The Scholarship will be payable in Edinburgh and cover the Summer School’s course and accommodation fees, including the costs of all tuition, accommodation, most meals, our social and cultural programme and full use of the facilities of the Edinburgh University library. The successful candidate will be offered a free place on the two-week term of their choice (Modernism, Scottish Literature or Contemporary Literature) on the Text and Context Course. The Scholarship does not cover travel expenses or spending money.
Applications for this special Scholarship are now invited from Greek undergraduate or postgraduate students of British and/or Irish Literature. The closing date for the award is 21st March 2014.There is no separate application form for the Greek Scholarship. Applicants should indicate on page 4 of the application form if they would like to be considered for it, and include a letter giving the full reasons why their financial situation would necessitate our support and how their academic achievements would merit it. We also require that one of the referees support the scholarship application. Scholarship applicants need not pay a deposit with their application.
If unsuccessful, applicants to the Text and Context course can be considered for a SUISS scholarship (the student should indicate on page 4 of the application form if they would like this to be). Please note that SUISS scholarships only cover part of the course fee.
Further information can be found on the SUISS websitehttp://www.summer-school.hss.ed.ac.uk/suiss/from where the application forms, and the SUISS brochure can also be downloaded.
Best wishes
